It is a fair atmosphere, on the dark side, but not so noisy conversations are possible. We were there on a Wednesday night and the place was packed, I assume weekends may be difficult to get in without a reservation. If you are a fan of sake, their list is impressive and some of them are quite tasty. If you like wine be aware that the wine list is quite limited and features mostly French wines, overpriced in my estimation. A side dish of roasted wild mushrooms was also very good. It is filling so you may want to share it, and it is salty. The house salad and the kale salad were very good and the portions generous. We were a party of six, most of the orders consisted of sushi and rolls which. My suggestion is to try other items in the menu. Raw fish dishes are very tasty but on the small side and the the price seems out of proportion. Wish I had ignored the hype and gone to Bar Masa. Oh and avoid a table on the "rooftop" It looks and feels like a kid's table in your grandmother's attic. Luckily we then ordered a spicy vegetable dish and fried chicken wings to finish our meal. He brought us another menu page that our first server had forgotten to give us and to his credit offered us a more flavorful dish to try. The manager asked how are meal was and we were quite open with him. If your only experience with sushi was getting takeout at Whole Foods, then by all means go here. We have eaten wonderful sushi all over the world and this place was surprisingly highly recommended. It truly would have been a better experience to order online and just have the dishes delivered to the table with no human interaction. Our server was barely there and had no suggestions about what to order or how the dishes paired with each other. Situated in the lobby of a wannabe Columbus Circle hotel, this place leaves you wanting much, much more, like a decent sushi restaurant. If you are searching for overpriced bland sushi, indifferent service and small portions, you are in luck and this is your place.
